When an unwanted guest comes calling on the family of Georgekutty, they ensure that this person never comes back to haunt them again. That was the premise of 2013’s Drishyam, in which Mohanlal, as Georgekutty, weaves an elaborate and unbreakable alibi for his family for the time in which the son of a high-ranking police official goes missing. The family goes on with their lives, until 8 years later, when the remains of the missing young man are found.
Drishyam 2 followed Georgekutty’s scheme to replace the remains that the police had recovered and ensure that DNA tests do not match; thereby keeping him and his family in the clear yet again. He does, however, ensure that the parents of the dead guy find closure of sorts, by anonymously providing them parts of the actual remains to facilitate last rites.
It’s a closed case that isn’t quite closed, and that is exactly how this story is described in the teaser of Drishyam 3, the final chapter in the franchise written and directed by Jeethu Joseph. The teaser has Georgekutty reflecting on or, perhaps, even confessing to the battles in his life, his actions and reactions to events, some of which he did without a second thought, but always to protect his family. In doing so, though, he has never really paid attention to the hurt his actions have caused others.
Drishyam 3, which also stars Meena, Asha Sharath Siddique, Murali Gopy, Hansiba, Esther, among others, is hitting theatres on leading man Mohanlal’s birthday on May 21, 2026.
